Maria Kulakova Lloyd is the original founder and first president of RCHS. She was passionate about animals and decided to transform five acres of land that had been vacant into a humane society. This organization has established several pet programs, including the Animal Safehouse Program (1997) and Pet Assisted Therapy (2003). The shelter has assisted over 11,000 pet adoptions since 2008.Menu Toggle

Judi Sanzo, the current President of RCHS, wrote in a public letter that Maria was a hero. She said, "[Maria] saved every stray dog and starving horse or injured owl who crossed her path." Today, we are still dedicated to the mission of rescuing homeless animal and promoting coexistence with wild animals, as well as supporting those who love them.

On July 21st, the shelter will receive the $10,000 donation. The shelter hopes to raise more than $200,000 thanks to the RCHS Board of Directors, Diane Calkins and Chris Calkins, HVAC Service San Diego, and other anonymous donors. This is in recognition of the organization's legacy and mission that began in 1960. RCHS launched their matching challenge in July. They will accept donations until August 31, 2020.Offers
